Cochise College has entered into an agreement with Barnes & Noble where the college’s students can rent textbooks. In the college bookstore, which is managed by Barnes & Noble the students can save more than fifty percent of the purchase cost when they get new printed textbooks. I don’t know how common this kind of program is, but it is always nice to see a bit of innovation in the book market.
Meanwhile over at Amazon, we hear that the Kindle is moving more into the High Street. The office retail outlet Staples is going to sell all the new Kindle-models in ist chain of 1500 US stores. Already, Target Corp sells Kindles.
Speaking of eReaders, Sony will be announcing its next generation of Reader at the IFA in Berlin later this week.The Sony Reader is promised to be slimmer, better, and include a touch-screen control.
And to remind you all that when you buy the Kindle, or many of the other readers, and then go shopping for books – you do no actually buy them. It is an important distinction to keep in mind. The books downloaded to your eReader is only licensed to you.
